peace

With spring temperatures came peace and relaxation. We had a fantastic weekend. Well, Josh was battling a cold so I don't think he enjoyed it as much as the rest of us.

Grandparent's Day was lovely. Lauren and I only stayed to watch Lael perform before leaving to do some shopping. Lunch out with everyone, thanks to Grandpa, was delicious. (I had a maple almond chicken salad that I'd like to replicate.)

Saturday we said goodbye to Josh's parents and ran some errands. Then we spent most of the day outside. Sunday after church was much of the same. Bike rides, wagon rides, walks and yard work. It was lovely. It ended with the first chicken barbecue of the year. I was one happy girl.

I've chatted more with my neighbors in the last 48 hours than in the last (almost) 6 years that we've lived in this house. We're the only family with young children and I'm the only stay at home mom. Needless to say, we've been a bit of an oddity. But I think our psychologist and college professor neighbors are finally realizing this redneck family isn't going anywhere for awhile at least. Its been nice to feel neighborly.

I taught Alyssa's children's church class yesterday. Its been a long time since I stood in front of a bunch of kids as more than just a referee but it was fun. The kids are adorable and I hope they learned a little something.

My parents called us Sunday morning. Not too unusual, as they call most weekend mornings. But the big news was that they were calling from a downtown Manhattan hotel. My mom drove down to New Jersey (where my dad is working right now) to celebrate their birthdays (Dad on the 2nd, Mom on the 5th). My dad surprised her with a trip into the city and dinner in Little Italy. How fun! I love that my dad spoils my mom. It's so cute. :-)

I just realized yesterday that its almost May. That is significant because the first weekend in May the girls and I are travelling with my parents to my cousin's wedding on Long Island. It will be the first time the girls have gone and the first time in 8 years I've been there to visit family. It will be a whirlwind visit but as long as we get to see the ocean, I'm happy.

  1. And I think the warm weather is here to stay - isn't it wonderful!? :-)

  2. My neighbors are all older, for the most part. We're the only people with young children. Needless to say, I don't find my neighbors chatting with me much either. But now I have hope that maybe after enough years, the chatting may begin!
