My newest project...

Homemade laundry soap. Three ingredients, all found at P&C. Fels Naptha soap - $1.39. Arm & Hammer Washing Soda - $2.89. Borax - $3.39.

Here is the recipe.

Putting my prices into the calculations given after the recipe, my 2 gallon bucket of detergent cost 84 cents. Each load of laundry uses a half-cup of detergent. So that translates to .013 cents per load of laundry. Just over a penny per load of laundry - that is worth the 20-30 minutes it takes to make the 2 gallon bucket.

My photos aren't very good but here are some I took during the process ...

The ingredients ...
Mixing the Fels Naptha, Borax, Washing Soda and water ...

Pouring into the bucket where I'll keep it ...
Adding one gallon water ...

All water added and mixed thoroughly...

Now it sets up for 24 hours. I'm excited to try it! All the ingredients are very natural and safe for cloth diapers as well.
