{review} Zonderkidz 101 Bible Stories

I received a copy of 101 Bible Stories From Creation to Revelation from Zonderkidz as a part of the Z Blog Squad in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Teaching a child to read is probably one of the most challenging and rewarding things about homeschooling. Once it all clicks though ... it's like a whole new world is opened up to them. One of the best things is when the new reader can sit down to read their own Bible. So when the opportunity to review a new book of Bible stories, I jumped at it!

Lauren is finishing up first grade and doing a great job with her reading. It's been so fun to watch her improve and get more courageous about reading out loud. She really enjoys being able to read to her younger sister! This book of Bible stories fits perfectly into her collection. Some words are challenging but it's not so hard that she gets discouraged.

Illustrated by Dan Andreasen

101 Bible Stories From Creation to Revelation is a pretty book, with a colorful hard cover and thick, glossy pages. It has a lovely presentation page as well. The illustrations are beautiful! Soft colors and detailed images of key Bible stories are brought to life by the illustrator.

Each story fills one page, with a corresponding illustration on the opposite page.  Some are longer than others, but there is always a corresponding reference directly under the title of each story.

I think Bible story books can be a little tricky. Sometimes they leave out key stories or details, making it so watered down it may as well not put Bible on the front cover. Others can be too long-winded or graphic, not appropriate for young readers. The 101 Bible Stories book contains many stories from the Old Testament that would be hard for young readers to get from a traditional Bible, but does a good job of summarizing them. The New Testament stories mainly focus on the life of Jesus. Several of the parables Jesus told are also summarized beautifully for young readers. There are also a few stories from the book of Acts and the from Revelation.

!01 Bible Stories From Creation To Revelation is a beautiful book that would be a great addition to the library of young readers. While it does pick and choose different stories from the Bible, I appreciated that it listed a reference for each story. I don't think anyone would try to teach theology from a children's book, and I wouldn't recommend it, but this does hit on many key stories and concepts from the Bible.
